FlexCutter Battery R2DP

The FlexCutter Battery R2DP is a laser cutting system, that produces small cathode parts from a roll of material for solid-state batteries. As the metal foil is often enriched with a silicate or ceramic layer, the laser system is specially engineered to handle this fragile material. For cutting precisely and preserving the top layer, one or multiple ultra-high lasers are selected.

The main features of the FlexCutter Battery R2DP are:

Discrete Parts Transport System

Besides the laser cutting module, the production line features also a sophisticated transport system for the discrete parts. Parts are fixated on carriers and can individually pass inspection stations in continuous, index or even reverse mode with very high precision. A database quality map follows each part, collecting the individual inspection results, and guarantees full traceability of the discrete parts

Finally a robot system will collect the parts into trays or flexible foil covers

Summarized, the complete FlexCutter Battery R2DP system contains:

  1. Laser Cutting and Pre-Inspection module: handles the unwinding of the ‘ceramic’ film, inspect it in continuous or index mode, cutting the film using multiple ultra-high-pulse lasers, managing the waste material, and conducting a preliminary inspection of each individual part with cameras.
  2. Discrete Parts Transport module: ensures the contact-free transfer of discrete parts on individual transport carrier. It includes positions for cleaning and inspection stations and a consistent parts administration database, that records all quality values for each individual part.
  3. Robotic Handling: A robotic system picks up the discrete parts from the carrier, cleans them again, and assesses them before stacking the approved discrete parts and rejecting the defective ones.

These features and processes deliver precision, efficiency, and reliability individual or combined in one advanced system.

The FlexCutter Battery R2DP line is an ideal solution for R&D or pilot line demands, but is also scalable for high volume converting of solid-state battery cathode foil rolls into discrete parts.
