Enhancing Tire Prototyping: The impact of precision hand-carved tires on testing and production decisions

At most tire manufacturers, prototype tires are carved out by hand to avoid investing into a entirely new mold. It is an intensive and particularly timeconsuming process, especially the grooves which contain the entire circumference of the tire, are difficult to carve in a straight line.

A more precise prototype pattern carved onto a set of four tires, to be tested ona car, would yield more reliable test results. These results are crucial when deciding whether such a proposed design should go into mass production.

Revolutionizing tire prototyping: Introducing Zenna's FlexCutter tire for faster, more precise engravings

To achieve more of these tested results, Zenna has designed the FlexCutter Tire.  Promising concepts can now be realized many times faster because the carving process is significant shorter with this laser machine. The result is a much more consistent engraving from the first to the last line. This craftsmanship of manually gushing is held by a small group of specialists with limited capacity.

A new tire is placed in the FlexCutter, the desired pattern is selected on the screen, and depending on the pattern, the tire is ready 4 to 6 hours later. Desired profiles can be easily designed in the ZocuPRO CAD drawing program and saved on the Human machine interface. Any profile that can be drawn can be cut by the laser; restrictionsbelong to the past. When a drawn design needs to be cut, it is selected on the screen, after which it can be started.
